Pro-Life Chicago Signs Covered by Unidentified Pro-Abortionists

Sad to say, but almost as inevitable as pro-abortion President Barack Obama announcing his plans to run for a second term is that pro-abortionists in Chicago would cover billboards that read “Every 21 minutes our next possible leader is aborted” and featured an image of President Obama.

According to today’s Chicago Tribune, “Two of the three identical ads…were covered with fabric banners with messages scrawled in red paint. One banner says: ‘In 21 minutes this sign should be gone.’ A second banner, which dangled from the billboard Sunday after being blown by the wind, says, ‘Abort Racism.’” The billboards have been up six days.

Claiming to be comprised of “social workers and community members,” an unidentified group (which would not give members’ names) emailed a statement to the Tribune claiming responsibility. “The group said the ads were disrespectful and did not represent the views of the community and that ‘it wanted to replace the negative, condemning message with a positive one,’” the Tribune’s Megan Twohey reported.

But there’s more to the story, according to details in a story that ran today in “The Chicago Flame,” the student newspaper at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Reporter Erin Vogel quotes Carole Brite, CEO and President of Planned Parenthood of Illinois. Referring to “community members,” Brite said, “They’re not going to stand for it.”

She added, “We’re hopeful that this sort of public outcry will force either the owner of the billboard or the billboard company to take it down.”

Vogel goes on to add, “Planned Parenthood Illinois has been in contact with organizations such as Black Women for Reproductive Justice, the Chicago Abortion Fund, and the American Civil Liberties Union about the issue.” PPI “has also contacted community leaders, religious leaders, and elected officials in the Englewood area, to spread the word about the billboards.”

Texas- based “Life Always” sponsors the billboards. In an early release, the group said it planned to have 30 billboards bearing the message in Chicago. The first is located on the Southside about 2 ½ miles from the closest Planned Parenthood in Englewood.

“These are babies who could grow to be the future presidents of the United States, or the next Oprah Winfrey, Denzel Washington or Maya Angelou,” Life Always board member Rev. Derek McCoy said.

“The scourge of abortion has hidden behind political correctness in the black community for too long,” said Stephen Broden, also of Life Always. “The heinous practice is devastating and decimating our community across this nation.”

In February Life Always ran an equally provocative billboard in New York City, before pro-abortionists convinced the company owning the location to pull it. The billboard, “The most dangerous place for an African-American is in the womb” accompanied by a picture of a young Black girl. A 2009 city health department report found that 59% of all African American babies were aborted.
